THE STUDIO BEHIND THE ART
For a long time, I didn't believe I was creative.
Growing up, I had an art teacher who, although I'm sure unintentionally, left me believing that creativity belonged to other people. Art wasn't something I was naturally good at, so I quietly accepted that it probably wasn't for me.
It wasn't until many years later, when I bought my first home, that everything changed.
I spent countless evenings poring over interiors magazines, saving rooms I loved and trying to understand what made them feel so inviting. Again and again, I found myself drawn to the artwork.
But the art world felt intimidating. The galleries I loved displayed Price on Application, while finding something beautiful and characterful within reach wasn't always easy.
Night after night, I searched online auctions for original paintings I might actually be able to afford. That's where I stumbled across Swedish oil painting - and completely fell in love.
What drew me in was that the paintings weren't perfect. They had character, atmosphere and evidence of the person who had painted them. They felt as though they'd already lived a life.
Occasionally I'd find one within reach, only to discover that international shipping could cost more than the painting itself. Then came import charges and, because the dimensions were rarely standard, expensive bespoke framing.
It got me thinking about everything that sat between loving original art and actually being able to live with it.
Surely I wasn't the only person looking for the in-between.
That's how StudioStig began.
I wanted to create art with some of the character I'd fallen in love with, but make it easier to collect, frame and bring into a home.
StudioStig is for people who don't need to know everything about art to know what they love. For people who want to fill their walls slowly, with pieces that make their homes feel more like their own.
Because that's how I found my way into art in the first place.
Not through a gallery or an art school, but through making a home.
