Composition: Verdigris, No. 1

A study in rhythm, where colour and form exist in quiet conversation.

Composition: Verdigris, No. 1 explores the relationship between colour, shape and movement. Rather than depicting a recognisable subject, the composition is built through layers of painterly forms that overlap, recede and reappear, creating a gentle sense of rhythm across the surface.

Soft verdigris greens, warm ochres and muted blues are balanced with expressive brushwork and richly textured layers, giving the artwork depth without heaviness. The composition feels both structured and instinctive, inviting the eye to move naturally from one form to the next.

The result is a painting that brings colour and atmosphere into a space without relying on representation, offering a timeless focal point that feels quietly collected rather than overtly contemporary.

Its layered forms and softened palette make it particularly effective in spaces that benefit from a stronger painterly presence, whether displayed as a standalone statement or paired with quieter landscapes and still life pieces.

It also works beautifully as an anchor within a gallery wall, introducing colour, rhythm and contrast while remaining an unmistakable part of the wider StudioStig collection.
