Figure Study, No. 2 sits at the meeting point between figuration and abstraction. The suggestion of a human form emerges through broad passages of ochre, rust and deep blue, with the figure defined not by facial detail but by the relationship between colour, shape and proportion.
There is a satisfying solidity to the composition, yet its edges remain loose and painterly. The eye moves between recognising the figure and simply appreciating the arrangement of forms, allowing the painting to exist comfortably as both a study of the body and an exploration of paint itself.
